- Holidays during January 2012
Dear applicants, please kindly be advised that India Visa Application Centre (IVAC) will remain CLOSED respectively on the following holidays in January 2012:
23 January (Monday, Chinese New Year), and 26 January (Thursday, Republic Day)
IVAC will be regularly opened on the other weekdays in January.
Any inconvenience caused regretted.
- Important Notice for Agents
In the part of “applicant contact details” on the online visa application form, the applicant is required to fill the personal contact number on the online application form. The visa application form containing agent contact number instead of applicant contact number can not be accepted at India Visa Application Centre.
- Satellite telephone services are not permitted in India
This is to inform all concerned including foreigners visiting India that satellite telephone services are not permitted in India. Unauthorized use of handsets of Thuraya, Iridium and other such satellite operators are not permissible under Indian law. People, including visitors to India, found to be making use of satellite telephone services will be prosecuted and all sets found in possession of any individual will be seized.
- HOLIDAY NOTICE: Dear Applicants please kindly be advised that the India Visa Application Centre will remain Closed on Monday and Thursday, i.e. 7 and 10 of November 2011 accordingly on account of Idu’l Zuha (Bakrid) and Guru Nanak’s Birthday.

- Holiday notice for 12 September 2011: The Shanghai India Visa Application Centre would be closed on Monday (12 September2011) on Mid Autumn Festival. Any inconvenience caused is regretted.
- Online Visa application : From 1 September 2011, it is mandatory for all applicants who wish to apply for any type of visa including diplomatic/officials/Public Affairs to apply only online at http://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/. Applicants of other visa types would continue to apply in the existing format till 31 August 2011.
- Holiday notice for 31 August 2011: The Shanghai India Visa Application Centre would be closed on Wensday (31 August) on the IDU'L FITR. Any inconvenience caused is regretted.
- 11 August 2011: Online Visa Application Implementation - Tourist Visa
From 12 August 2011, it is mandatory for all applicants who wish to apply for a Tourist Visa to India to apply only online. Please visit http://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/ to file your online application. Through the online process, please print the completed application and submit at the India Visa application Center as usual along with the required documents. Please check

Note:
- The photograph required for the new online application is 2inch*2inch [51mm*51mm] with plain background.
- When filling the Online Form, please do ensure that all details entered are accurate. The option to edit text is not available once the form has been saved and printed. In such a case, a new Form would need to be made with all correct information entered.
- This site is best viewed in Internet Explorer (Windows) version 8.0 and above
- You must also have Adobe Acrobat Reader version 7.0 or higher installed on your PC in order to download and print the completed application form. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader version 7.0 or higher, you may download a copy by clicking here
- You can use either an Ink-Jet or Laser printer to print the completed Visa Application form/s once you have submitted it online. Sign and date it and present it along with the relevant documents and passport to our Visa application centre.
- Depending on the speed of your Internet connection, it may take several minutes to download the initial and completed copies of the form/s.
- We request you to please leave your popup blockers turned off for the duration of this activity.
- Once you have completed your online application form please ensure that you bring a hard copy of the completed signed form with you when attending one of our Visa Application Centres.

The application forms should be completed in all respects and should be signed by the applicant himself. Incomplete applications or those signed by non-applicants or containing incorrect information are liable for rejection without any claim for fee refund. Applications can be submitted in person by the applicants themselves or through their representative/s.

- 14 April 2011: All applications need to be completed and signed by the applicant himself. No incomplete application will be accepted. Applications can be submitted in person or can be sent through representatives.
- Holiday Notice for 14 April 2011 : The Shanghai India Visa Application Centre would be closed on Thursday ( 14 April 2011) on the birthday of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar . Any inconvenience caused is regretted.
- 23 February 2011: Please note that the sample of Dispatch letter and Invitation letter has been updated in the Checklist section. Please refer to them before submitting your application.
- 1 February 2011: all the applications of any category submitted by agent/agency must be submitted before 10am. No application will be accepted after 10am from any agent/agency for any category.
- Important notice for all business and employment visa applications: The Applicants applying for Employment visa in China should at the same time also apply at Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Foreign Division in Delhi, India. Copies of the applications should be sent to Shri. P.S.Sivaraman, Deputy Secretary (F), Ministry of Home Affairs Telefax No. 0091-11-23383888 either through their representatives in India or through the Indian company with which they have signed the Contract.
Business Visas will only be issued to those Chinese Applicants who want to visit India to establish an Industry & Business venture or to explore possibilities to set-up such a venture, or who wish to purchase or Sell products in India.
All applicants executing projects or contracts will have to apply for Employment Visa.
Employment Visa will only be granted for skilled & qualified professionals or to applicants who are being engaged or appointed by a company/organization/industry or undertaking in India on Contract or Employment basis at a senior level, skilled position such as technical expert, senior executive or Managerial position.
Employment visa will NOT be given for routine/ordinary secretarial or clerical jobs.
- Important notice for travelers to India: As per the instructions given by the Consulate General of India, Shanghai, starting 10 December 2008, ALL foreign nationals applying for a visa to India will have to pay the additional referral fee of 100RMB.
